Introducing Frazzle Dazzle

Earlier this year, I wrote a post about the loss of our precious girls Donut and Twiglet. At the time I wrote that, we had already introduced a new member to our cat pack – but I didn’t feel that I could write about her until I had properly written about Donut and Twiglet.

It’s been about 9 months now since we lost Donut, and considering that we’ve now introduced two subsequent additions to the cat pack, it feels long overdue to introduce you all to our darling Frazzle (aka The Bear 🐻 – I will leave it to you to guess why when you see her pictures!).

Frazzle’s journey to join our family actually started in March 2023 following Twiglet’s passing; when we received the insurance payout for her cancer treatment, we decided to try to help another unfortunate cat with ‘her’ money.

After a dig online, we found a Special Needs Cats for Adoption page featuring animals from around the world looking for homes. There were many cats posted, all from different fosters and rescues, and often with very sad backstories.

One cat stood out for us – a young long-haired female cat from Egypt with one eye and a wonky jaw. The cat’s rescue mom, a lady called Manar, had made multiple posts over a period of nearly two years seeking a home for this little cat, explaining that she had found her after she had been hit by a car, an accident which cost the cat an eye and a healthy jaw. When Manar found her, the cat had only a poor chance at survival. However, she wanted to live – and thanks to Manar and her team, against the odds, she made a miraculous recovery. Unfortunately, despite repeated pleas for adoption, she was not so lucky at finding a home – and two years on, was still in Manar’s care.

Shortly after rescue.
Recovering nicely – but still a ways to go.
All recovered, but still in the shelter waiting for a home.

We immediately made contact with Manar and enquired after the cat, whose name was Dahab – Arabic for ‘golden’. After many rounds of back and forth conversation, Manar agreed to arrange for a home check with one of her contacts in Scotland who was only an hour away from us by car. Once we were approved, Manar worked through the hoops of sending this little cat all the way to the UK to us, and finally, in May of 2023, we welcomed Dahab into our home.

Manar let me have a little video call to see Dahab – this was our first ever photo ‘together’.

Upon her arrival, we instantly fell in love, and after extensive debate, renamed her ‘Frazzle’ – a popular snack in the UK – in honour of Twiglet’s gift to her (though Twiglets are almost assuredly more of an acquired taste, they are also a staple British snack!).

This is the first photo of Frazzle at our home – this was taken at about 3am after a 24 hour trip (flight from Egypt, clearance at Heathrow, and a courier drive all the way to Scotland!).

This is another photo of Frazzle looking adorable in a box – the innate love of boxes is truly universal:

Through Frazzle, Manar and her shelter comrades have touched our lives in ways we could never have foreseen. While we miss Twiglet and Donut every day, Frazzle has brought immeasurable joy to us – she is the funniest, sweetest, most sensitive little cat you could hope to meet. That she is still so open and loving to her humans after two years in a shelter is an enormous testament to the work that Manar and her team do – and the impact they make on the lives of the animals that depend on them.

Here are some more photos of our Frazzle Bear:

Since Frazzle’s arrival, as mentioned above, we have also welcomed two further kitten additions to the cat pack – Bagel and Ravioli. I’ll write about them later, but I wanted to mention them briefly here, as Frazzle has become a wonderful big sister to them both – she loves to play with them both and patiently allows Ravioli to snuggle her when he decides he wants affection. She has really blossomed since the kittens arrived and is SUCH a good big girl 🥰 Of course, that isn’t to say she doesn’t worship the ground Schnitzel walks on – which is also super adorable, except when she learns to do naughty things by watching her (the one eye never holds her back!).

So, you have now properly been introduced to our Frazzle! ♥
